Admissions Decision

Application notification begins on September 1 and is provided on a rolling basis. In order to secure a space with the university, refer to your admission letter for your final deadline to submit your enrollment reservation and mandatory orientation deposit.

September 1-November 8

Submit your Enrollment Reservation and Mandatory Orientation Deposit

Complete your reservation by purchasing the package appropriate to your class level when you log onto your MySSU Online Services account. After purchase, finalize your Admissions acceptance through MySSU.

If you cannot pay online, you can print this ERD form and pay by check. Mail to:

If you are unable to pay the reservation deposits at this time, you may request a Hardship Deferment which reduces the initial payment. More information is available on the Hardship Deferment form regarding eligibility, payment specifics, and instructions.

Refund Information: If you change your mind about attending Sonoma State University, you must notify the University in writing in order to receive a refund. The Enrollment Reservation and Campus Housing Down Payment are 50% refundable if requested in writing by December 15, 2019; non-refundable thereafter. NOTE: The Orientation Fee is 50% refundable until December 15, 2019 ONLY if requested in writing prior to your selected orientation date. The fee is non-refundable, regardless of admissions status, if the orientation date you signed up for has passed, you attended the session, OR an orientation refund is requested after December 15, 2019. October

Apply for campus housing by paying housing down payment

Transfers are NOT guaranteed housing: therefore apply for campus housing early. To apply for campus housing, go online to create an application. No payment is due at the time the application is submitted. Application date establishes priority for housing assignment and space. Housing is in high demand and space fills quickly. September-December

Submit Financial Aid Material

The application process is free. The first step in applying for financial aid is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Application (Dream App) using SSU's school code of 001156. If you are a US citizen or permanent resident, complete the FAFSA online at FAFSA. Otherwise, complete the Dream App at Dream App. Read more at Financial Aid

Starting November 1

Accept campus Housing offer and pay Housing down payment 

Campus housing offers are sent electronically on a space available basis. In order to accept your offer, you will also need to submit a $300 Housing Down Payment by the designated deadline. Housing Down Payment does not guarantee a specific assignment. Read more @ Housing

September 15-December 5

Submit mandatory immunization records

All incoming new students are required to submit immunization documentation showing they have received the required 2 dose series of Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) vaccine through "My Health Portal" tile on their MySSU Online Services Portal.  

Those who will be under age 19 on January 22, 2020 must also send records showing they have received the required series of 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine. Compliance is a mandatory condition of enrollment and should be completed no later than December 5, 2019. Read more now about the immunization requirements and how to satisfy them.

Students who do not comply with this pre-enrollment requirement on time will have a Hold on their ability to register for classes and are subject to other late compliance penalties. The CSU is considering adding additional immunizations to this requirement. See immunization requirements for details in the Frequently Asked Questions section.

October-November

Register for and attend required Orientation

Transfer Orientation gives you an opportunity to meet with faculty, review information regarding how your credits will transfer, plan your schedule and REGISTER FOR CLASSES. Transfer Orientation is a one-day required program where you will learn about graduation requirements, the registration process and satisfy our university policy that you will be advised before beginning your first semester. January 5

Pay your mandatory registration charges

You must pay your mandatory registration charges by January 5, 2020. Even if schedule changes are planned, you must complete the registration process by paying the mandatory charges or an automated disenrollment process will occur.

Note: Sonoma State University will be closed from December 25 - January 1 and the online payment system will be open throughout the holiday closure. Mailed payments must be received by the campus on the due date deadline in order to be considered as "on time". Mailed payments received by 12/20/19 and in-person payments received by 12/23/19 will be posted in the 2019 calendar year. Mailed or in-person payments received on or after 1/2/20 will be posted in the 2020 calendar year.

Financial Aid Students: If you have applied for financial aid and have received an offer from our Financial Aid Office by January 5, 2020, in an amount sufficient to cover your semester mandatory registration charges, the payment of your mandatory registration charges will be deferred until your first disbursement for Spring 2020. You will NOT be disenrolled. If you file your FAFSA after November 1, 2019, you must front your Spring mandatory registration charges or your classes will be dropped in January.

January 10

Submit final transcripts

Your offer of admission is contingent upon you meeting the specific admissions requirements outlined on your admission letter. It is mandatory that your spring college transcript is received in the Office of Admissions by January 10, 2020. Failure to submit your final college transcript will void your offer of admission. Request that all your Official Transcripts be mailed to:

November 1- February 1 Scholarship Material Due (For Academic Year 2020-2021) The application period is closed for 2019/2020, but don't miss applying for the 2020/2021 academic year by February 1st! Scholarships range from $500 to $5,000 per year. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater to apply for this program. Read more @ SSU Scholarships

January 18-20

Move-in Weekend

Open Registration Add/Drop

Need to adjust your schedule? Spring 2020 open registration/add/drop dates & times will be posted on our calendar. You can still register during the add/drop period. See Registration.

January 21 Classes Begin You can still register during the add/drop period. Be sure to pay any associated charges no later than February 4; registration is not complete without final registration payment.
